Because STEMKit's tools run in your browser, our policies are simple: your data is your business.

Privacy Policy

1. Your data stays in your browser

STEMKit runs on your computer. Whether you are cleaning a CSV, inspecting a structure, running an ANOVA or tidying BibTeX, every calculation happens in JavaScript in your browser, and the files you open are read there. We do not upload, receive or store the data, files or text you work with. Three features contact another service, and only when you use them: DOI to BibTeX sends the DOIs you enter to doi.org, which passes each lookup to the agency that registered the DOI (Crossref, DataCite or another), the Structure Inspector sends a four-character PDB ID to RCSB when you ask it to fetch that entry, and a tutorial video loads YouTube's player when you press play on it. Those services receive the request as any website would, including your IP address. Nothing else you enter is sent.

Tutorial videos. Many tools show a video tutorial on their page. Until you press play, the page shows only a thumbnail served from STEMKit itself, and YouTube receives nothing. Pressing play loads the player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode; from then on YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and browser details, and its own privacy policy applies to the player, including any cookies or storage it uses. The "Watch on YouTube" link opens the video on youtube.com instead.

2. Local storage and cookies

We do not use cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. (A tutorial video you start runs YouTube's player in a frame of its own, under YouTube's terms; see section 1.) Some tools use your browser's localStorage to remember things between visits: the light or dark theme, dismissed hints, panel sizes and open tabs, the Structure Inspector's spin speed, timer and script-generator settings, and the custom journal abbreviations you add. It stays on your device, is never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser's site data removes it.

3. Hosting

STEMKit is a static website. Every script, stylesheet, font, icon and image is served from the site itself; no page loads anything from another host unless you use one of the features in section 1. Like any website, our hosting provider may log standard connection data (such as IP address, time and browser user agent) for security and routing. Those logs cannot contain the data you process in the tools, because that data never leaves your browser.

4. Personal data (GDPR, CCPA)

STEMKit has no accounts and keeps no record of what you do in the tools, and it does not collect, store or process the data you work with. The only personal data involved is connection data: the IP address and browser details that the host may log (section 3), and that doi.org, RCSB or YouTube receive if you use those features (section 1). The data you analyse stays under your control.

Terms of Service

1. Research & Educational Use Only

While our statistical tools, curve fitters, and mathematical utilities are built upon rigorous, peer-reviewed logic and standard libraries (e.g., using robust Modified Z-Scores or Student's t-distributions), STEMKit is provided for educational, exploratory, and basic research purposes only.

Disclaimer: STEMKit must not be used for clinical diagnostics, medical decision-making, structural engineering of load-bearing architecture, or any scenario where computational failure could result in physical harm, loss of life, or severe financial damage.

2. Academic Integrity & Verification

Users are solely responsible for independently verifying their results before submitting them to peer-reviewed journals, utilizing them in grant proposals, or deploying them in engineering projects. We do not guarantee that the tools will perfectly handle all mathematical edge-cases, extreme floating-point numbers, or uniquely formatted trajectory files.

3. "AS-IS" Software Warranty

The STEMKit web platform and its associated utilities are provided on an "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" basis without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, STEMKit disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

4. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall STEMKit, its developers, contributors, or affiliates be held legally or financially liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from the use of (or inability to use) our tools. This explicitly includes, but is not limited to, damages for loss of research data, corrupted simulation trajectories, academic penalties, retracted manuscripts, or halted professional pipelines.

5. Intellectual property

You keep full ownership of any data, code or images you create, clean or process with STEMKit. STEMKit's own source code is released under the MIT licence; see the LICENSE file in the repository.
